Allan Jarvis
Senior Consultant
Allan Jarvis started his career in lift engineering with Glasgow City Council in 1990, as an apprentice lift engineer. He studied electrical and electronic engineering at north Glasgow College and computing at Stow College, later continuing his education at Caledonian University where he completed a post graduate diploma in management studies in 2002.
During his career he has worked with Glasgow City Council, Schindler Lifts and ThyssenKrupp Elevators where he worked on numerous projects with public and private sector clients such as British Energy, Roche Products (DSM), NHS Scotland & the Glasgow Housing Association. Allan has been involved in both new lift and modernisation projects and has held both technical and managerial positions.
In September 2006 Allan joined Lerch Bates Ltd as a senior consultant where he has worked on Glasgow’s Anderston Phase 5 mixed use development for Taylor Woodrow (VINCI), and modernisation consultancy for the grade “A” listed Scottish Legal Life Building in Glasgow for Drivers Jonas.
In addition, he has also consulted on numerous new construction and modernisation projects with clients such as Tesco, Primark, Sainsbury’s, NHS, Scottish Courts, National Galleries of Scotland, University of Strathclyde and for Scottish housing associations such as Castle Rock Edinvar and Dunedin Canmore.
He is currently working with the National Galleries of Scotland and PAGE \ PARK Architects to develop a bespoke lift solution for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and is also working with Hilton on the modernisation of existing lifts within the Glasgow hotel.

Lift Equipment Specification
- Competent in producing specification documents for new lift equipment in both new and existing buildings, tendering and tender evaluation
- Competent in undertaking detailed surveys of existing lift systems and producing modernisation specification documents for existing buildings, tendering and tender evaluation
Project Management
- Competent to manage complex lift/escalator installation or modernisation projects to achieve completion within budget and target time scales
- Competent to advise on strategies to manage project resources, critical paths, progamme time scales and key milestones
Maintenance Contracts
- Competent in producing performance based maintenance contract documents and tendering
Surveying
- Competent to undertake detailed lift/escalator equipment surveys and produce reports
Acceptance Inspection
- Competent in carrying out inspection & snagging of new VT equipment
Communications & Access Control Systems
- Knowledge of building communication & security systems
- PAC, Entrotec, BPT, Raytel, Blick & GDX
Fault Finding
- Competent in diagnosing faults to component level
Risk Assessment
- Ability to undertake and prepare risk assessments
- Safety Management Certification from The Institute of Occupational Safety & Health
Method Statement
- Ability to produce specific documents
CSCS
- CSCS Current Accreditation valid until 2013
CDM
- Completed training on CDM 2007 – Construction Study Centre
- Competent to fulfill CDM Coordinators duties on lift projects
