Torbay Hospital
Torquay
Over the last five years Lerch Bates has become close partners with several major hospitals and public sector bodies throughout the West and South West of England.
As with many general hospitals the site at Torbay has, in recent times, had to adapt its buildings and infrastructure to keep pace with increased demand and to provide both the diversity and flexibility required of main healthcare sites. Issues such as greater public access and irregular materials movement has increased the complexity and performance requirements of the largely long existing vertical transportation systems.
Working closely with the hospital engineering, logistic and clinical teams Lerch Bates developed a cost effective and engineered solution for the Main Tower and Maternity Block lifts. Our understanding of the client’s complex vertical transportation needs assisted in the modernisation of six bed passenger lifts serving eight floors with the key features of lift speed, capacity, and specialist functionality for the theatre lifts having been successfully addressed. The project, now (2009) largely commissioned, has been completed within tough budget and time constraints.
