Milton Court

London

Milton CourtThe Milton Court development by Heron Land Developments combines world-class performance facilities for the Guildhall School of Music in the first eight floors (two below ground and five above ground) with a high quality residential tower.

RHWL Arts Team are the designers for the Guildhall School of Music which comprises a 610 seat concert hall, 230 seat training theatre, a studio theatre and additional space for teaching, office and support services. Lerch Bates Ltd have worked in close partnership with The Arts Team to assist in identifying the lift strategy requirements for both passenger and goods circulation throughout the building. Our major consideration in the design process was to identify vertical circulation access for disabled persons to ensure requirements fully comply with the UK Building regulations Part M and the Lift Disabled access safety code EN81 – 70.

The final design for the Guildhall School of Music comprises one Front of House (FOH) 1000kg (13 persons) passenger MRL lift serving level -2 through 4 at 1.6mps rated speed. In the Back of House (BOH) areas are one 2000kg (26 persons) passenger service MRL lift serving levels -2 through 6 at 1.6mps rated speed and one 4500kg hydraulic freight lift serving levels -2 through 1 at 0.4mps rated speed. The building also includes three vertical lifting platforms and three inclined wheelchair stair lifts to cater for all disabled access requirements.

Our Facade Access team also designed the access & maintenance systems for this project, consisting of a two stage telescopic Building Maintenance Unit with jib extending upto 21.25m and a glass replacement unit. A conventional beam gantry and slewable platform has been designed to access the internal areas of the Guildhall School.
