Leckhampton Court

Cheltenham

LeckhamptonCourt-004Leckhampton Court is a Grade I listed building and the main hall block dates back to early 16th Century. It is currently owned by Sue Ryder Care.

Lerch Bates was engaged by Sue Ryder Care Property Department to survey the existing two floor hydraulic passenger lift installed in 1986 by Hammond and Champness. It was discovered that the lift had been used on another site before the installation at Leckhampton Court and we advised the client that it was necessary to either fully modernise or replace the lift in order to improve reliability and bring it up to modern standards. Due to the listed status of the building it was not possible to carry out the building works required for a new lift and thus a modernisation solution was agreed. The client gave the go ahead and tenders were issued. Stannah were awarded the contract and orders were placed. During this period the client decided that the lift would provide a better service if the ground floor was altered to provide an open through door arrangement with selective door operation. Despite the changes we were still able to meet client’s requested start date. During the mobilisation period, car interior finishes were agreed, drawings approved and a telephone line was installed in the lift motor room.

The works commenced on the 20th October 2008 and were completed and handed over on the 28th November 2008. All snag items were completed before handover.
