Abford House
London
Designed by Sheppard Robson, Abford House is a landmark contemporary building located on a major pedestrian route to and from London’s Victoria Station. The building, which adjoins the Apollo theatre, replaces two existing structures and comprises 10,400m2 of office accommodation and storage over 9 floors and 1,780m2 of retail use at street and lower ground levels.
The office sector of the building is served by a group of 4 passenger lifts with the machine room located in the basement level incorporating destination control. One lift is provided with front and rear openings and is designated as a firefighting lift serving the rear openings in firefighting mode. The building also contains 1 x office MRL goods lift at 2000kg capacity serving all levels and 1 x retail MRL goods at 2000kg capacity serving goods and basement levels.
Our Facade Access team also designed a bespoke access & maintenance system for cleaning, maintenance and replacement of the external envelope of the development. The system has a long reach telescopic jib measuring up to 22m traversing twin tracks. The system is raised from its parking location below the vaulted roof using 30 tons capacity lift table designed specifically for the facade access equipment. The complete system is designed to ‘park’ below the vaulted roof level and lined to create a aesthetic roof line thereby keeping it out of view.
