RIBA Award Winner 2012
June 29, 2012
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the winners of the 2012 RIBA Awards (Thursday 21 June 2012). Awards have been given to 50 buildings in the UK and 9 buildings elsewhere in the EU. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the building of the year will be drawn from the 59 RIBA Award winners.
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh, (Page/Park Architects) was one of the RIBA winners. Lerch Bates worked with Page/Park to transform the circulation routes and improve access around the gallery. This was achieved with the design of a bespoke 48-person capacity glass lift running through the core of the gallery. We worked with Page/Park from the early design stage to bring a lift that is not only functional in terms of moving people and artifacts but, as it has three sides and a roof completely made from glass, also provides the perfect viewpoint as it moves slowly through the gallery.
