Lerch Bates Director appointed Chairman of CIBSE Lifts Group

cibse_bottomleyreverse_smAt the CIBSE Lifts Group AGM on the 10th February 2010 Adam Scott stood down as Chairman of the Lifts Group after his three year appointment. Michael Bottomley, Lerch Bates Northern Regional Director, was appointed Chairman with Lionel Hutt of Kollmorgen taking up the post of vice Chairman. Adam Scott has taken over the role of BSI representative from John Snowball who retires from that post after many years service.

The CIBSE Lifts Group is formed of members who have an interest in vertical transportation. The group meets regularly to promote technical standards, training and education, publications and various aspects of the industry.

Michael Bottomley has been active with the Lifts Group for many years and, as Chairman, will spearhead the launch of a Facebook Group to enable members to keep in touch and share points of view. The Lifts Group is also due to launch the new CIBSE Guide D on the 3rd November 2010 at the annual road show to be held at the CIBSE headquarters in Ballam.

Speaking after his appointment Michael Bottomley said, “Lifts are not the safest form of transportation by chance. Safety is the combined result of good design to robust standards installed and maintained by a well trained workforce committed to best practice. It is these principles which inspire my work both at Lerch Bates and within the Lifts Group. We have regular seminars in London and Manchester which are traditionally well attended and deal with industry specific topics. The Group, although formal in structure and operation, is a friendly meeting place for those interested in lifts and escalators. I very much look forward to my new role and hope to see many new faces attending our events.”
