Steve Ridley
Steve started his career in Quality Assurance whilst working for Toshiba Computers, where he was responsible for the testing of new computers to strict standards. He progressed within the company and sat and passed the exams for the Institute of Quality Assurance. He then joined the Dyno Group (Dyno rod / Dyno Lock / Dyno Plumbing) as Head of Quality, Health & Safety.
Steve’s involvement with Vertical Circulation began when he was offered a position working at the new construction site for Terminal 5 – Heathrow, planning and installation of the lifts and escalators for both Terminals (Main Building & Satellite).
Steve joined Lerch Bates in 2007 as Quality, Health & Safety Manager and has been responsible for developing the quality system to reflect our current practises. We have recently been assessed to the updated ISO standard – ISO 9001: 2008, but as with all quality systems, we are continually improving.

Technical Papers
Please find below a number of our recently published technical papers. Should you have any further questions concerning these please do not hesitate to contact us.
Circular Transportation in the 21st Century (IAEE)
This paper is being presented at the IAEE Elevcon conference in June 2010. It combines a summary of highlights from a paper presented in late 2009 at the New Civil Engineer’s Conference held in London called “Engineering Design for Tall Buildings” entitled “Vertical Transportation, Maximising Core Efficiency – New Concepts” with some radical new thinking about the future of vertical transportation coining the new phrase “circular transportation”.
3D – Destination Double Deck; The Next Generation of Double Deck (IAEE)
This paper explores the work done in the past six years on identifying the inherent and perceived problems with double deck lifts in general and when used with “conventional” two button collective traffic control systems in particular. It also identifies the many advantages of so-called 3-D “destination double deck” control systems being pioneered by Lerch Bates for new high rise towers.
Development of Simulation System for Lift Design (ICSE)
This paper addresses the work done in pursuit of an expert system for designing building passenger vertical transportation systems.
